June 15, 2024 - Environmental Summit (Upcoming event!)
In observance of the United Nations World Environment Day, HJIFEP is featuring an exciting Environmental Summit for the general public. Expert speakers, Dr. Rattan Lal and Dr. Douglas Tallamy, will awaken our consciousness about our relationship with the natural environment and promote action in protecting and renewing our ecosystems.
This Summit will be conducted both in-person and online. Local nonprofits will participate as partners and set up tables to network and share information with each other and participants. See the registration link and flyer below.
November 4, 2023 - Eco Fair 2023
HJIFEP pioneered a new educational event called Eco Fair 2023 in partnership with the Mid Atlantic Community Church (MACC) Garden Ministry and the Capital Family Church. Environmental organizations and faith-based groups were invited to set up tables at the MACC property under a large tent and introduce themselves and their activities to the local community. These organizations included the University of Maryland Extension Master Gardener Program, Maryland Therapeutic Riding, GreenVest (a landscape restoration business), and Crofton Village Garden Club among others.
While visitors learned about the different organizations, there were service activities conducted at the church garden. Visitors learned how to build raised-bed garden boxes and plant Fall crops and trees.
At lunchtime, there was an indoor program starting with singing from the Heavenly USA volunteers followed by talks from Mr. Elmer Dengler, a retired scientist from the Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Dr. Michael Jenkins, Chairman of The Washington Times Holdings and a board member of HJIFEP. The keynote speech was given by Dr. Sun Jin Moon, Executive Director of HJIFEP and daughter of HJIFEP Founder, Rev. Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon. Afterwards, there was a dance performance by HJ Dancers from the Capital Family Church.
Through her speech, Dr. Moon conveyed the HJIFEP Founder’s heartfelt message about the Creator’s love and concern for the creation and made an urgent call for peace and reconciliation between human beings and nature.
May 21, 2023 - Visit to Ohio Family Church
HJIFEP Outreach visited the Ohio Family Church in Columbus, Ohio, and Mr. Gregg Jones gave a presentation about the environmental crisis and possible solutions to 65 people after Sunday Service. The community was encouraged to launch a garden ministry on their church property.
April 23, 2023 - Spring Fest
Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) organized Spring Fest in New York in conjunction with the Belvedere Family Church and HJIFEP to commemorate Earth Day. After messages by Dr. Chung Sik Yong, FFWPU North America regional president, and Rev. Naokimi Ushiroda, FFWPU USA president, the HJIFEP Executive Director, Dr Sun Jin Moon, spoke at the event virtually and highlighted the current state of the environment and our need to properly care for and act responsibly toward nature. HJIFEP and the new Belvedere Garden Team guided the creation of a church garden built in the old Belvedere greenhouse space. Forty volunteers helped build boxes, plant seedlings, organize and prepare the space for gardening.
There were a host of other activities as well such as sports tournaments, a chess competition, and a talent show. Pony rides, face painting, and bouncy castles were available for kids throughout the day.
March 19, 2023 - Presentation at Capital Family Church
After Sunday Service at the Capital Family Church, an Mr. Gregg Jones gave a presentation focusing on environmental solutions. Fifty-five people attended.
March 18, 2023 - Presentation at American Clergy Leadership Conference Prayer Summit
HJIFEP Outreach gave a brief 12-minute presentation on environmental solutions of 125 clergy at the American Clergy Leadership Conference Prayer Summit in Washington, DC.
February 25–26, 2023 - Visit to Belvedere Family Church and Presentation
HJIFEP visited the Belvedere Family Community in New York with Mr. Gregg Jones giving a short presentation on environmental issues to the Youth Ministry to 35 kids on Saturday. On Sunday after Sunday Service, the HJIFUS Outreach Director Gregg Jones gave a 35 min presentation to the Belvedere Family Church similar to the presentation given on Jan 22, 2023, followed by a tour of the greenhouse and proposal to start a community garden in that space.
January 22, 2023 - Presentation at Capital Family Church
The HJIFEP Outreach Director, Mr. Gregg Jones, gave a presentation to the congregation of the Capital Family Church about numerous environmental crises. Two hundred people were present.
November 14, 2022 - Presentation to College Students
A presentation was given to 40 members of the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles. The presentation was on different backgrounds of environmental thought, the current worldwide environmental crisis, conventional and frontier scientific solutions to environmental problems, three pillars for creating harmony with the natural world, and the originally intended relationships between the Creator, humans, and nature.
October 2, 2022 - Pathways Expo Participation and Presentation
HJIFEP participated in the Fall 2022 Pathways Expo by setting up a booth and giving a 40-minute presentation in one of the break-out sessions. At the booth HJIFEP staff promoted its international environmental conferences and published proceedings books, its service activities related to Outreach, and its online environmental magazine, The Earth & I. The presentation was an introduction to HJIFEP, its three approaches to addressing the environmental crises which are uplifting the human mind and soul to take care of the environment, broad research and application of scientific solutions, and enabling human society to live in harmony with nature through the principles of interdependence, mutual prosperity, and universally shared values. Later, the editorial team of The Earth & I wrote an article for the Winter 2022-23 Issue of the Pathways Magazine.
May 28, 2022 - God, Humans, and Nature - Spring Service Project and Youth Revival
HJIFEP Outreach organized an event under the theme of “God, Humans, and Nature,” where 100 volunteers took part in nature care activities at the MACC and its garden. Activities included pulling nails out of recycled wood and painting the wood, constructing raised bed garden boxes with the recycled wood, clearing away invasive vine trees surrounding the garden area, moving soil into boxes by wheelbarrow, spreading wood chips, and watering the garden plants. After the outdoor service activities, volunteers gathered into the church for lunch where event partners shared brief talks followed by a presentation on how to reconcile the broken relationships between humans, nature, and the Creator.
March 13, 2022 - Spring preparation of the Garden
The boy scouts of Troop 1212 built a compost bin for the MACC Garden by following a blueprint, built raised bed gardens, and used a skid loader to move a large soil pile. Education was focused on understanding the world environmental crisis, its cause, and the solutions for how to heal and preserve the Earth for future generations.
November 5, 2021 - Fall Garden Cleanup
Youth groups from the MACC Garden and the Capital Family Church worked together to clean up the garden and prepared beds for next Spring. Brief education was given about loving nature and healing the earth.
October 21, 2021 - Eagle Scout Project
The boy scouts of Troop 1212 followed blueprints to construct a potting table out of recycled wood. The theme of the activity was focused on self-reliance and ingenuity to identify materials that can be recycled. In this case, the boy scouts used wood obtained from a deck replacement. The potting table was built at the MACC Garden.
August 24, 2021 - Birdhouse Project-
HJIFEP launched its first environmental service project in partnership with the MACC Home School and Garden Ministry and the Capital Family Church to address the issue of declining native bird populations. Fifty-four community members participated including school children, parents, young adults, and other guests. At the event, Mr. Gregg Jones, the newly appointed Outreach Director of HJIFEP, gave a talk on how the birdhouses help by providing safe habitats for native birds. An educational talk was given to provide greater awareness of the originally intended true love relationships between the Creator, human beings, and the natural world. Students completed worksheets as they listened to the talk. Afterwards, students and parents built 12 birdhouses which were installed around the perimeter of the 42-acre church property.
